Silk business cards are very popular because they look very elegant, classy, expensive and at the same time durable and last longer. In commercial or offset printing, silk refers to a special laminate finish being applied to full color business cards and other printed materials to achieve a matte finish and super silky smooth appearance. The laminate also make the paper or card stock used for printing your business card tear and water resistant. Silk business cards also look expensive because they are usually printed on thicker card stock (from 10-16pt heavy card stock) Other people, however, find the matte finish boring and flat.
