20 Sets of Free Seamless Plaid Patterns and Swatches
Plaid patterns refer to designs consisting of crossed horizontal and vertical bands in two or more colors. Plaid patterns were traditionally used for woven cloths. These days, however, these designs have countless uses from fashion design or textiles to graphic and web designs as well as in product packaging, among other things. Common examples of these designs include tartan, gingham, check pattern and madras.
In this post, we put together almost a thousand designs contained in 20 sets. The first 15 sets are pixel patterns in any of these formats: JPEG, PNG or Photoshop PAT files. The last 5 entries are vectors, which give you more flexibility such as changing the colors and the patterns themselves.

SEAMLESS PATTERN PACKS
The following are plaid pattern packs in pixel format, either in JPEG, PNG and in Photoshop .PAT file. All are seamless and can be tiled, allowing you to fill any shape with these patterns or even paint with them. Have fun using these free resources.
01-Plaid 256×256 – Pack 1 by Sedma
This is the first of five sets of plaid patterns from this author. This batch contains 110 designs featuring horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines. The zip file contains just the .pat file, which you can load in your Photoshop program to create seamless backgrounds. Since the plaid pattern is seamless and can be tiled, you can actually create backgrounds in Photoshop of any size and fill them with these patterns.
02-Plaid 256×256 – Pack 2 by Sedma
Here is the second batch of beautiful designs from Sedma. This time, the zip file contains the pat file of 111 patterns in different colors. Like the first set, all these images are sized at 256×256 and are tileable or seamless.
03-Plaid 256×256 – Pack 3 by Sedma
The third pack contains a total of 110 designs in various color combinations. Like the other sets, all the patterns are sized at 256×256 pixels and are tileable or seamless for creating high-resolution backgrounds.
04-Plaid 256×256 – Pack 4 by Sedma
This is the fourth installment of plaid patterns from Sedma. This set also includes 110 designs in a .pat file for Photoshop. These patterns are all sized 256×256 and are tileable or seamless.
05-Plaid 256×256 – Pack 5 by Sedma
This is the fifth and hopefully not the last installment of patterns from Sedma. This last batch contains only 108 patterns sized are 250×250 pixels. Like the previous sets, these patterns are also in the .pat format and all seamless and tileable.
06-Plaid Patterns by Berrykissed
This pack of 45 seamless background in .PNG and Photoshop .PAT formats may be used for blogs, twitter, formspring, tumblr, blogger, etc. You may also use these patterns for other projects or designs where you need plaid backgrounds.
07-Tartan, plaid and houndstooth patterns from Berrykissed
This pack contains 24 different patterns in .PNG and .PAT format featuring plaid, tartan and houndstooth designs. These may be used as background image in blogs, twitter, formspring, tumblr, blogger, as well as in other personal and non-commercial projects or designs.
08-Softly Plaidly Peachy Keen by kittenbella
This pack contains 11 various plaid Photoshop patterns. The file that you may download from Deviantart contains a total of 22 designs in two different sizes in PNG. These patterns are also tileable so you can use the .PAT format in case you need a higher resolution version for your background.
09-Soft Plaid Patterns by Romenig
This pack includes six plaid patterns in soft–almost pastel–hues that you can use for free for creating nice backgrounds.
10-Plaid Patterns from Romenig
Here is another set from Romenig, this time, in bright colors. Includes 8 various designs in bright reds, yellows and purples.

If you want to use them as patterns in Photoshop, you need to open the JPEG file and then define it as a pattern and you can fill any shape or even paint with it. Includes 8 distinct designs.
13-Plaid Pattern by Roula33
This set includes 31 dainty plaid patterns mostly in pink and purple.

This set contains 16 textures that you can use for free in your designs and projects.

There are 13 various patterns in this set that you can download and use for free. The file that you can download is in Photoshop .PAT file.
PLAID PATTERN SETS FOR ILLUSTRATOR (VECTOR)
The sets below are plaid patterns in vector format, particularly Adobe Illustrator pattern files. And since these are in vector raw files, you can still change the colors as well as the design such as the orientation of the lines from horizontal to vertical or diagonal, so on and so forth.
16-Free Vector Repeat Plaid Patterns from Pattern Head

17-10 Seamless Plaid Patterns for Illustrator and Photoshop from Colorburned
A set of 10 seamless plaid patterns for Illustrator and Photoshop that you can use in your designs. The patterns are available in both Illustrator and Photoshop format and can be imported as a .PAT file in Photoshop or as an .AI file in Illustrator.
